How to buy pants for your student that are compliant with our uniform guidelines
"Dress for the job you want, not the job you have." Many have repeated this phrase when asked if certain clothing is appropriate for a specific function. One of the goals of our uniform guidelines is that students learn to dress for success daily.
Uniform pants have gotten more challenging to manage over the past few years. The market is flooded with so many options, it's often hard to know what is or is not uniform compliant.
Beginning August 1, 2024:
Uniform pants are:

- Black, khaki or navy blue (gray is no longer part of the uniform)
- At least ankle length
- Have belt loops and a standard button/zipper front closure
- Sit on or near the hip
- Made of chino cotton, microfiber polyester (golf pants material) or cotton corduroy
- Free from holes and decoration
Uniform pants are NOT:

- Yoga pants, cargo pants, jeans, leggings, jeggings, sweatpants, athletic pants, skirts, skorts, shorts or any iteration of these
- Drawstring or elastic waist, hip-hugger or sagging below the waistline
- Elastic, zipper or jogger hemmed at the bottom
- Made of denim cotton, colored denim cotton, fleece, athletic double knit polyester, spandex or leggings material
- Pants with PATCH POCKETS sewn on the back.* (See below for examples)

*The 'no patch pockets' rule will be strictly enforced beginning August 1, 2025
If you are purchasing new pants for fall 2024, patch pockets are not recommended as they will be 'out of dress code' beginning in August 2025.

There is no deadline to order pants from Lands' End. The ordering deadline only applies to uniform tops sold by the Campus Store.
Visual Uniform Pants Examples
Chinos are made from chino cloth and jeans are made from denim. Both materials are essentially cotton; however, chinos are made from chino cotton and jeans are made from cotton denim. Denim is classically a heavier fiber, where chino cloth is typically lighter weight.
